Meet The Junior Peterson

Do not let the word “Junior” fool you.

The Peterson JP is built for real sawmilling and is capable of producing useful structural and dimensional lumber from your own logs.

The 6-inch JP configuration can make a standard cut of up to:

  • 6" × 6"
  • 4" × 12" using double cutting
  • Logs up to approximately 13 ft long with the standard track system
  • Longer logs with optional track extensions

Peterson also lists a typical setup time of approximately 5–10 minutes and an average production figure of approximately 1,600 board feet per day, although actual output varies with timber species, cut size, operator experience, and site conditions.

The JP is particularly well suited for producing:

  • Framing lumber
  • Posts and beams
  • Barn and shed lumber
  • Fencing material
  • Cabin lumber
  • Decking
  • Siding
  • Custom-sized boards
  • Specialty timber
  • Live-edge material with optional slabbing equipment

Designed for Owner-Operators

The Junior Peterson is designed so it can be run by a single operator. Its track levellers allow the mill to be set up on less-than-perfect ground, while the centre saw unit moves along the tracks during milling.

Routine blade maintenance is also designed to be straightforward. Peterson states that the circular blade can be sharpened while still mounted to the mill, reducing downtime and simplifying maintenance.

More Than Just Dimensional Lumber

The Junior Peterson also includes built-in capability for cutting tapered weatherboards, and it can be expanded with optional equipment such as Peterson’s Clip-On Slabber, Planer Blade, and Sander Disc.

That gives the mill the potential to move beyond basic boards and beams into higher-value specialty lumber and finished wood products.

Peterson Portable Sawmills

Turn your own logs into valuable, usable lumber with Peterson Portable Sawmills. Built around Peterson’s proven swingblade design, these mills combine portability, accuracy, versatility, and strong production in a machine that can go to the log instead of bringing every log to the mill.

Whether you are milling lumber for a farm, acreage, woodlot, cabin, contracting business, or custom sawmilling operation, Peterson gives you the flexibility to produce dimensional lumber, beams, boards, and specialty cuts directly from your own timber.

Peterson’s swingblade system allows operators to change board dimensions as they work through the log, helping improve recovery while reducing unnecessary handling and re-sawing.
